Tata is now planning to manufacture semiconductors. This Move comes from Tata when the Covid-19 pandemic caused a global shutdown in the manufacturing of semiconductors, which ultimately caused a global shortage of chips and semiconductors.

N Chandrasekaran Tata Sons Chairman said: “At the group, we have already set up a business to seize the promise of high-tech manufacturing of electronics, precision manufacturing, assembly and testing, and semiconductors in the medium term.”

Why is Tata shows interest/wants to manufacture semiconductors in India?

The world currently is facing a very huge shortage of chips and semiconductors, which in the 21st Century have become very important for new-age technological products such as smartphones, computers and etc.

Including the traditional sector like Automobile.

Several carmakers in the world have delayed deliveries of their vehicles and even pushed the launch of new vehicles because of the chip shortage. Tata Motors’ UK-based unit Jaguar-Land Rover has also done so.

Why will the Smartphone industry in India get the advantage from Tata entering semiconductor manufacturing?

Semiconductor manufacturing will help India in many ways:-
1. Indian will soon have its own chip manufacturing industry
2. We won’t rely on other chip manufacturing companies
3. Electronics such as smartphones, laptops, smartwatches, T.V. and etc. will have a huge price drop.
